Barcelona Part 1

Barcelona is such a wonderful city with lots of places to visit. You will need at lest a week to see everything and that will be a week of running around. But even if you just have a long weekend then you can still see a lot. The Picture above I took close to Port Vell, there are always some sort of boats here that tourists can get up on and walk around.

Colon you will find at the end of "Las Ramblas". From 'Plaza Cataluña' you can walk down 'las ramblas' and you'll come to 'Colon' and if you continue walking you'll arrive to 'Maremagnum' and 'Port Vell'. Some say that Christopher Columbus (Colon) was supposedly Italian but his voyages were funded by the Spanish. Some People say that Colon was Spanish but I don't know the facts :).

Plaza Cataluña is a great spot if you arrange to meet people because it's very big and open area and all around there are different shops, bars and restaurants. I like to just walk through it and enjoy the scenery and atmosphere.

Barcelona is a very safe city due to the amount of police and CCTV. However you still need to be careful with your belongings as they can go missing without you knowing. Like any international city there are pick pockets that you need to keep an eye out for. My advice is if you have a backpack then carry it on your chest instead of on your back so you can see it at all times.

Las Ramblas you will really like because there are lots of people dressed up so that tourists can take photos with them (they will expect a donation/tip). Some of these people have put a lot of effort into their costumes and really are very impressive. Apart from people dressed up there are a lot of stands/kiosks selling different things like ice creams, pets, food, souvenirs and lots more.

This is just a small insight as to what you will see whilst in Barcelona. Hopefully I can add more information in another blog pretty soon. There is a lot more to cover eg. Barcelona FC, Guadi, barrio gotico etc. There are tour buses that are worthwhile because you can get on and off at each stop and you get to see all that your interested in. If you have any questions just leave a comment.
